I seriously can’t believe that my husband and I celebrated our 5 year wedding anniversary last weekend! It was so nice because our actual anniversary fell on a Friday and my husband took off work (and believe me when I say, he NEVER takes off work)! It was so funny because our whole plan was to try and get to the hotel early in hopes that the room would be ready. However, we ended up running errands, cleaning up a bit so that our dog sitter wouldn’t think we always live with empty Amazon boxes everywhere lol!, and packing like we were staying there for a week. All this meant that we didn’t technically leave until like 6:30!!
We made it to the Orlando World Center Marriott and immediately went into relax mode! We packed a bunch of snacks and stuff to make prosciutto sandwiches (my fav), but of course, we packed a million bags but forgot the pack ‘n play. Oops! So we made a makeshift bed for Madelyn.
Can I just say that it was so nice to just not do anything? I mean, yes, we totally could have saved money and stayed home, watched tv, and went to the pool across the street, but the thing is, it’s almost impossible to do that! There’s laundry to be done, cleaning, cooking, and the renovations on our house that my husband is doing. It’s hard to not do that stuff when we are home.
So anyways, we exchanged presents; Jonathan got me a beautiful necklace from the International Diamond Center! Like BEAUTIFUL! Since we were celebrating our 5 years, I went with the “traditional” present of wood. I got him shoes made from trees from Allbirds and a gift certificate for a massage at the The Woodhouse Day Spa so that we can have a date there soon.
After Madelyn went to bed we totally just binged watched Broad Church on Netflix. We haven’t binged watched a show since before Madelyn was born! If you all are in need of a good Netflix show, this one is AMAZING!!! The next evening my sister and brother in law watched Madelyn so that we could go to dinner at The Boathouse in Disney Springs! SO good!! We got back to the hotel, put Madelyn to bed, and then finished season 2 of Broad Church. Haha!!
The next day we had a late checkout, so we ordered room service and then packed up and drove home; back to reality. It might have not been the most eventful little vacation, but it was exactly what we needed. We sometimes get so caught up in the everyday routine of work, eat, sleep, and repeat that it takes us away from just living. I’m sure once Madelyn gets older we won’t be able to just hang out in the hotel room, but until then, any chance we get that’s what we are going to do haha!
What do you do to unwind? Do you load your schedule up when you go on vacations, or do you take it easy?
